Legend Signs MOU for UK Distributor License Sale

International Distribution Launches as Domestic Sales Momentum Builds

Burnaby, British Columbia, May 20, 2010 – Legend Power Systems Inc. (“Legend Power”) (TSX-V: LPS) (FSE:XLE) announces that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ElectroFlow Solutions (UK) Limited (EFS) to purchase the distributor license for Legend’s patented electrical conservation technology in the United Kingdom. The agreement includes an initial system as well as engineering and training services leading to the execution of a full distributor license.

Electricity rates in the UK are two to three times those in Canada and with the country’s switch from UK 220v to the EU standard 230v, forced over voltage energy waste is a significant problem that Legend Power’s Harmonizer-AVR’s conservation voltage reduction technology is well positioned to resolve.

With a bespoke manufacturing facility in Gorleston, Norfolk, and headquarters at the Beacon Innovation Centre, EFS offers a range of energy-efficiency and Power Quality services which help the largest users of electricity in the UK to cut their carbon footprint, and save money. The company’s engineers are NIC qualified, and have a minimum of 5 years experience of electrical engineering.

“The ability of the Harmonizer-AVR to add incremental savings to EFS’ current line up of conservation technologies, combined with the company’s strong engineering team and respected reputation among many of that country’s major brand, key accounts makes this an excellent partnership for both organizations and accelerates Legend’s international sales in a solid and familiar overseas market”, said Gerry Gill, Chairman and CEO of Legend Power Systems Inc.

The Sustainable Office Toolkit

Friday, February 26th, 2010

I came across the Sustainable Office Toolkit today. It’s an excellent resource for offices who want to go green but need some direction. From their website:

The Sustainable Office Toolkit is a set of resources and tools developed by the Sustainability Division to help offices of all types and size move toward sustainability through practices such as recycling, energy and water conservation, and “green” building.

To become a sustainable office, your environmental program must become part of your business’s core operating principles and values. It must be carried out as systematically and with as much attention to detail as a project for your manager or board of directors. For example, simply posting recycling signs above a new container is not going to effect a change in behavior; and such a change is exactly what needs to happen.

The site has guidebooks on how to implement your green plan; modules to teach you about different areas of sustainabilty, like waste reduction, energy conservation and corporate social responsibility; and resources to help you out, including sample environmental policies, templates and environmental calculators. Although the toolkit is aimed at the state of Georgia, it’s helpful for any office wanting to go green but unsure of how to get started.

Ask an Engineer: Andreas

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

Ask an Engineer is a series in our blog that provides a behind-the-scenes look at Legend Power and the people behind our technology. Today’s engineer is Andreas.

Andreas In The Lab

Name: Andreas
Length of Time with Legend Power: 4 months
Job Title: Co-op Student, R&D Engineering Support

Erik: In your opinion, what is the greatest benefit of commercial, electrical energy conservation?

Andreas: The greatest benefit of electrical energy conservation is saving energy and money, and saving the environment by reducing Greenhouse Gases Emission from electrical energy generation.

Erik: What is a little known fact about Legend Power’s Harmonizer-AVR?

Andreas: That’s its simple. People may think that the Harmonizer is a very complicated and advanced piece of technology but the Harmonizer is simply a transformer that is meant to reduce voltage according to the AVR’s instructions. In other words, to compare it to a car system, the AVR is the engine and the Harmonizer is the wheel.

Erik: What are some places, companies or governments that you’d like to see initiating electrical energy conservation?

Andreas: The best location to start electrical energy conservation would be the electrical energy generation plant, because the basic principle of energy conservation is to reduce unnecessary power generated by the plant itself. Electrical energy conservation will also bring significant difference to places where huge amount of energy is needed, like warehouses and factories, because they tend to draw much more power than they need due to their massive loads.

Erik: What do you do in your spare time?

Andreas: In my spare time I usually play soccer, listen/play music or just hangout with friends.

Erik: What would your alternative career be?

Andreas: If I wasn’t engineering, I would open a small business, or continue my family’s business as a spare-parts distributor in the auto industry.

Ask an Engineer: Paul

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Ask an Engineer is a series in our blog that provides a behind-the-scenes look at Legend Power and the people behind our technology. Today’s engineer is Paul.

Paul

Name: Paul Han
Length of Time with Legend Power: 5 weeks
Job Title: Engineering Technologist

Erik: What is your top tip for electrical energy conservation?

Paul: Unplug any unnecessary home appliances when not in use, such as your TV, computer, phone chargers, etc. It’s a small but easy thing that everyone can do to help with energy conservation

Erik: What is the coolest thing you’ve seen while working on the Harmonizer?

Paul: I guess the coolest thing I’ve seen about the Harmonizer is that it works. It’s exciting to see something that could help push companies towards a greener path.

Erik: What is the bigger picture here? What does Legend Power bring to the world?

Paul: The bigger picture is to help companies make an important step towards becoming more energy conscious. Doing so doesn’t require some grand gesture but a consistent act of change and improvement. I think Legend Power provides that through our product.

Erik: What trend do you refuse to follow?

Paul: Yoga.

Erik: What’s your favourite activity outside of the office?

Paul: Reading a good book.

How Big Business Can Fight Climate Change

Wednesday, December 9th, 2009

Case Study - BC Hydro

BC Hydro Installed the Electrical Harmonizer-AVR

The Boston Globe recently published a great article on “Bringing Big Businesses into the Climate Fight” (Nov 15, 2009).

Big business is an important group that, as of yet, has not fully realized its potential in fighting climate change. Although corporate America is steadfast in its support for greening the supply chain and their products, this is only part of the answer.

The corporate world can fight climate change in larger ways that have more of an impact on society than individuals can alone. Business and industry can look at green building standards, electrical energy conservation, water conservation, and general power use.

In particular for businesses running 24/7 or two 8-hour shifts, electrical energy conservation alone can result in a 6-10% decrease in electrical costs.

This type of change is not only good for the environment. It’s good for the bottom line, And if the right people are in place, doing the right things, then business executives and investors can change the way that they think about business and sustainability.

By integrating sustainability into business, organizations can, yes, do a good-guy thing for the planet, but they can do something financially good for the bottom line.

If continuity and survival of the business are the key drivers for executives and investors, then conservation needs to be top of mind. The threat posed by carbon dioxide and disappearing natural resources affect the economy, health, and access to resources. Addressing sustainability provides kids, our future customers, with a future.

Government change, yes, is needed. But it’s not just government and individuals who can play a role. The staying power of institutions guarantees success in the fight against climate change, and those who choose to be part of the solution will be rewarded.

In terms of electrical energy conservation, the best, immediate action to take is as simple as requesting a building audit from Legend Power. The building audit quickly identifies facilities leaks, voltage optimization issues and utility overcharges. Dealing with facilities is a priority since getting it right can save you money.

Next steps include analyzing the risk of not acting on sustainability issues at a company-wide level. At Legend Power we recommend having the sustainability officer report to chief executive, that goals be set with the board of directors, and that the CEO be held accountable. We are talking about the financial health of the company, not just positive change for the sake of doing something good for the environment. Big business can fight climate change. We believe in you.

Learn how the Legend Power Electrical Harmonizer-AVR can save you money.
